Before the next holiday season, Patreon will allow you to gift memberships to your friends and family. Patreon says it’s a chance for creators to give a “holiday income boost” and for fans to send a thoughtful gift.

First of all, Patreon Members can now purchase or upgrade a subscription for anyone and share it with a simple link. “Through Gifting, they can now introduce new works to friends, family, and other fans or upgrade an existing free member experience to a paid one,” Patreon explained in a blog post.

When purchasing a gift subscription, you can choose a membership level and subscription duration, and share it with a personalized message. The recipient simply taps the shared link to activate the subscription.

Some Patreon creators may also offer free memberships, as a thank you or simply offering fans a free trial of the paid perks. To be eligible, creators must use the subscription billing type with an unrestricted paid tier. Each gift can be used up to 1,000 times (or a lower limit if the creator wishes) and for up to 12 months. Only members who are not already subscribed to a paid tier can benefit from this promotion.

Along the same lines, creators can also give discounts on their paid subscription tiers. Whether creators are running limited-time holiday sales for all visitors or surprising specific groups with private discount codes, fans can now join a Patreon creator community at a more accessible price, the blog says. Creators can set the discount percentage, coupon codes, and choose whether the promotion applies to all membership levels or just a few. Both free memberships and discounts should appear in the promotions tab of the Patreon dashboard.
