Naveen Babu suicide: Sessions court to hear PP Divya’s bail plea today | Kerala News

Kannur: The Thalassery Principal Sessions Court will consider the bail plea of former Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya on Friday. The court should decide on a hearing date after receiving a police report. The family of former ADM Naveen Babu has already announced its intention to oppose his bail plea.

Police are also expected to take Divya into custody today in connection with the ADM’s death. The investigation team will submit a judicial custody application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kannur.

Meanwhile, the state government and the Ministry of Finance continue to remain silent on the controversies surrounding Statement by Kannur District Collector Arun Vijayan on ADM’s death. The inquiry report of joint commissioner of land revenue A Geetha, submitted on October 24, was submitted to Revenue Minister K Rajan, along with remarks by the principal secretary and the chief secretary.

After the death of Naveen Babu, the minister had described the ADM as a good public servant and said he would provide further information after receiving the inquiry report. However, as the findings are likely to be examined in legal proceedings, officials said the report may not be made public as it includes details of the farewell meeting held for Naveen Babu, statements made by PP Divya and the death of the ADM.

The report, which exonerates the ADM in the petrol pump issue, is expected to be presented to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday.

Collector’s declaration submitted under sealed cover
Kannur District Collector Arun K Vijayan submitted his statement to the Joint Commissioner of Land Revenue in a sealed envelope, which was later added to the survey report as per the advice of the Principal Secretary Revenue. It remains to be seen whether the controversial statement was officially recorded in the report.

The Thalassery Sessions court, in its order denying anticipatory bail to PP Divya, quoted the Collector as saying that the ADM had confessed to a “mistake” in his room. The court also observed that this confession could not prove that the ADM had accepted a bribe to issue a no-objection certificate for the petrol pump.
