Sonya Brunner wins state for Calvary Lutheran, Tolton and Rock Bridge earn team medals

The first day of the Missouri State Cross Country Championships is in the books on Friday.

Classes 1 and 5 completed the Gans Creek cross country course.

Sonya Brunner stole the show for Calvary Lutheran in the Class 1 girls race with a first-place finish.

Brunner is the Lions’ first-ever state champion in cross country.

Other Class 1 girls placers include Addison Barringhaus of Glasgow in 6th grade, Mairyn Kinnaman of Paris in 20th and Madelynn Sprengal of Calvary Lutheran in 28th.

In the Class 5 girls race, Tolton placed 3rd as a team thanks to 20th and 22nd places from Elyse Wilmes and Madison Taylor respectively.

Rock Bridge’s Alyssa Ritter also earned all-state honors in 25th place.

In the Class 5 boys race, Rock Bridge placed 4th as a team.

Luke Sievers finished 3rd while Cook Hudson placed 13th for the Bruins.

Cameron Martensen of Rolla rounded out the list at 21st.

In the Class 1 boys race, Landon Chapman earned second place state for Paris.

Viennese Hunter Schwartze placed 13th.

Grades 2-4 will wrap things up on Saturday.
