For Sewell, being able to change people’s perceptions of the art form has been satisfying.

“I’m really proud that we’ve tried to encourage the growth of this art form and encourage artists who are striving to do it,” he said.

Sewell plans to focus on the movement therapy he developed, called Coordi, which focuses on brain and body health.

“I’m excited to explore this further and help people in other ways, and I hope that my voice as a choreographer will always find channels or outlets when necessary or appropriate,” he said . “I have no bitterness about it. Things change – we will evolve with it. I will find ways to make it work.

JSB plans to provide holiday bonuses to its dancers to help them during the upcoming audition season and is raising funds to support this effort.
