Quick recap: last week, Marie-Claire published an interview with the actor in which she revealed that she and her family currently split their time between Mexico and Spain, meaning they no longer live in the United States.

Eva cited several reasons for the decision, and she touched on Donald Trump’s recent victory in the US presidential election – and she also acknowledged the “privileged” situation her family is in.

“I can escape and go somewhere,” she said. “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to find themselves stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness are for them.”

Since the interview was published, the general talk online has been that Eva and her family specifically left the country because of the election — and now she’s setting the record straight.

On Friday, Eva called to The view co-host Ana Navarro’s The view: behind the table podcast to set things straight. “Would you like to let them know that I didn’t leave Spain, I mean the United States, because of Trump?” she asked.

“I’ve been working in Europe for almost three years,” Eva explained, after Ana pointed out that the move technically took place before the current election. “Besides, that’s what the article says. People just picked up clickbait stuff to sow discord, which makes me so sad, you know. Everything you say is just meant to sow discord when we can’t be like that right now.

When Ana pointed out that Eva had previously told her that living abroad “was like cutting through the noise,” Eva replied, “Yeah, I mean, being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a state of confusion. bubble, that’s for sure.”

But Eva reiterated that she lives outside the United States primarily for professional reasons. “That’s why I’m in Europe,” she said. “I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.
