Pueblo makes tourism more accessible to everyone

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Pueblo is working to become a more accessible travel destination for people with disabilities.

The city is now one of three locations in Colorado participating in the accessible travel program. Under the program, major attractions such as the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center will be extensively audited to ensure compliance and help identify areas for improvement.

The city’s top tourist destinations will also be listed on the Wheel the World website, a website offering accessible travel guides.

Donielle Kitzman, vice president of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, says of joining this program, “Well, tourism for Pueblo County is certainly a very important economic driver and so any way we can continuing to improve and increase visitation just helps provide local resources for our our own residents as well and so we’re excited to increase visitation and grow the economy in Pueblo.

Kitzman goes on to say, “We certainly want Pueblo to be an inclusive and welcoming destination for all types of tourists and travelers as well as our own residents here locally. So we’re excited and we think this program is important to just bridging the gap between accessibility and the needs of people with disabilities for our community and for our visitors.
