Frasier episode banned in the UK was never broadcast on Channel 4 | Television and radio | Showbiz and television

An episode of Frasier, the spin-off of iconic 80s sitcom Cheers, has been banned from broadcast in the UK, and it has not gone unnoticed by fans of the show.

Frasier, which aired for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, followed psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane as he left Boston for his hometown of Seattle and hosted his own radio show.

Dominating the ’90s American sitcom boom alongside shows like Friends and Seinfeld, Frasier was highly regarded and won a record 37 Emmys throughout its decade. After years of rumors regarding the character’s return, a revival series was officially announced in 2021.

Fans of the popular American sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer as the titular radio psychiatrist have pointed out that Channel 4 regularly skips a particular episode of its broadcast schedule: the episode “High Holidays” from the eleventh season of the series.

This episode is notable because it features Niles Crane, played by David Hyde Pierce, attempting to rebel as an adult by purchasing a marijuana brownie, which is unwittingly consumed by his father, Martin Crane, played by John Mahoney . This leads to a series of comical events centered around confusion.

Channel 4’s exclusion of this episode has never been officially explained, leading to speculation that it may be due to its depiction of drug use. But fans have taken to social media and forums to explain why they think the film has been banned from live TV, reports Crack.

A Reddit The user wrote: “They don’t usually show High Holidays – the one where Freddie is a goth. Probably banned with the drug references at that time of the morning.”

The series has been renewed for a sequel, with its revival beginning in 2023, which actor Kelsey Grammer spoke about in an interview with People Magazine. He said: “It feels good, it feels good. I’m trying to find the right word, justification. In my heart I thought, ‘I know we can do this and I know we can do it.’ do it really well. And I didn’t want to do what some other shows had done, sort of come back and be the same show.

“I thought everything was happening exactly the way it was supposed to happen. And Frasier is still alive, and he has a new story to tell and a new set of people to do it with, and it’s been fantastic.”

How else can you watch the episode?

Despite the episode’s absence on live television, it remains accessible via Channel 4’s on-demand service, All4.

This was confirmed by another viewer, who shared their experience on Reddit: “I saw the episode this week for the first time. It surprised me that I found a rare, unwatched episode, but now I wonder if it just wasn’t there and available before.
