FSU football rivals Florida Gators address head coach Billy Napier’s future

A cry of inspiration, for lack of a better term, rang out across the state of Florida for change in coaching, particularly in Gainesville, where the Florida Gators had 5-7 and 5- seasons. 7 under head coach Billy Napier. , with the “southern team” now at 4-4.

While State of Florida stands at 1-8 this season, it may not be entirely fair to criticize UF, and yet the Gators chose to keep head coach Billy Napier on board, maintaining confidence in his leadership despite a difficult path to relevance.

Talent and consistency have proven to be key to keeping college programs afloat, and the Gators have shown their commitment to Napier. “We will continue to support Billy and his dedicated team as we work together to build a championship program,” athletic director Scott Stricklin said Thursday. “I wanted to let you know that Billy Napier will remain head coach of the Florida Gators.

The University of Florida hasn’t won a national championship since 2008, nor much else since then. So how bright does the future look under Napier’s tenure? UF would owe Napier around $27 million if he was fired without cause, but I still wouldn’t consider him in the hot seat just yet. A public announcement with the transfer portal opening on December 9 could be the reason for this decision, as the moving of the pawns continues in the new era of college football.

The Seminoles are scheduled to face UF on Saturday, November 30, and although odds have not been officially released, FSU will likely be an underdog in that matchup. The move could have contributed to rumors that longtime four-star Mandarin quarterback and FSU commit Tramell Jones, Jr. could return to the Gatorsbut there are two sides to every story.

Questions remain as to who will stay and who will go to Florida State, but it appears the Gators will have “their guy” next season.
