Telehealth platform Hims & Hers will begin offering a generic version of the GLP-1 weight loss drug liraglutide to its customers in 2025, Quartz reported on November 4.

The move comes as patients continue to struggle to access popular brand-name weight loss drugs, such as Wegovy and Zepbound, which have been in short supply for much of the year.

Liraglutide, sold under the brand Saxenda by Novo Nordisk, has seen its patents expire. Hims & Hers has found a primary supplier for its generic version of liraglutide and announced plans to offer it as a more affordable option to its brand-name counterparts.

The FDA recently reported that the shortage of Eli Lilly’s Zepbound had resolvedalthough Wegovy and Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic — which the agency approved as a diabetes drug but which are sometimes prescribed off-label for weight loss — are still considered to be in shortage.
