WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association held its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease Saturday in Wrightsville Beach.

More than 1,000 participants honored those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with a poignant “Garden of Promises Ceremony.” Marchers carried flowers of different colors representing their personal connections to the disease.

A record $198,000 was raised during the event. Money raised from the walk will fund the Alzheimer’s Association’s care, support and research programs.

Donations toward the event’s $200,000 goal will still be accepted through December 31.

Gabe Ross of WECT was the emcee for the event.
