Delhi Police investigating after scammers target family

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Delhi Police are investigating after a family says they were contacted by a scammer threatening to harm them.

The family claims they received messages from the scammer asking them to pay a fine, even sending them their address and the names of each family member.

Police say she is not the only one targeted by these messages.
Police say she is not the only one targeted by these messages.

It’s not just about this one family, says Delhi Police Lt. Joe Macaluso. Three other people in Delhi recently lost over $100,000 to scams.

“Nowadays, in the times we live in, you can get information, pictures of the house, who lives there, etc. “, explains Lieutenant Macaluso. “It’s not totally uncommon. For me, what was a first for us was the video.

The family received a threatening video of the masked and armed crooks in what looked like a car.

Investigators say the video has been circulating online and may not be unique to the family.

“So I don’t think the video is unique to them, but it’s certainly enough to scare them,” Lt. Macaluso said.

Lt. Macaluso recommends not responding to text messages, phone calls or emails that might be a scam, and instead calling local law enforcement to investigate.
