Skoda and Volkswagen are recalling cars in India: here’s why – Automotive News

The four models, including Kushaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus, have been developed under Skoda Auto-Volkswagen’s India 2.0 programme.

Known for their exceptional build quality, Skoda and Volkswagen have issued a recall for their locally developed offerings in India. This includes Skoda’s Kushaq and Slavia and Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus. The two sister brands are part of the Volkswagen Auto conglomerate.

This development can be confirmed by a registration on the SIAM voluntary recall site which mentions that certain units of the models mentioned above which were manufactured between November 29, 2023 and January 20, 2024. In total, 52 units (14 Skoda and 38 Volkswagen) were affected by this recall.

The recall was officially registered on October 28, 2024. The listing also mentions the reason for this recall. According to the website, it was found that the models manufactured during the aforementioned period suffered an irregularity in the production process at the component supplier’s side. During the welding process, the weld bead on the affected component “track control arm” might have missed.

If this component fails in unavoidable circumstances and during critical driving maneuvers, it may result in a sudden loss of vehicle stability and control, without any prior warning. This could cause an accident, potentially injuring vehicle occupants and causing damage to third parties.

Skoda and Volkswagen have yet to officially announce a recall or share any confirmation on the matter. The automaker should contact owners of affected vehicles to inform them of the recall and have their vehicles inspected at the nearest authorized service center. The faulty track control arm will likely be replaced free of charge on these vehicles.
