LAFAYETTE PARISH — The Lafayette Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 400 block of East University Avenue in Lafayette, where four people were shot, leaving two people dead and two others in critical condition.

The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) said one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where a second victim succumbed to his injuries. The other two victims are currently in critical condition as medical personnel work to stabilize them.

Police responded quickly to the scene and have since established a crime scene on East University Avenue. LPD investigators are working diligently to uncover the details surrounding the incident, piecing together what led up to the deadly shooting.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, as notifications to next of kin are still pending. Additional information on the victims is expected once families have been notified.
