Brian Kelly takes responsibility for LSU’s loss to Alabama and failure to contain Jalen Milroe

Brian Kelly said it was on him Saturday night after No. 11 Alabama defeated No. 14 LSU 42-13 in Baton Rouge.

“They were ready to play,” the LSU coach said of his Tigers. “I’m responsible for our guys not being in the right position tonight.”

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe had a career-high 185 rushing yards with four scores.

“If you watch the game, you’re like, ‘What were these guys doing for two weeks?’ » he said. “We have a plan to stop the quarterback. We didn’t succeed. I take responsibility for it. …

“We’re not reinventing the wheel on how to defend the quarterback. There are only two ways to defend it.

Alabama converted 10 of 13 third-down conversions. Meanwhile, LSU’s offense turned the ball over three times.

“We didn’t make the most of the opportunities we had and certainly a lot of things didn’t go the right way tonight, not being able to get off the field on third down, turning the ball over on offense. He seemed at times like key elements weren’t going our way.

Kelly said he was confident heading into Saturday night’s game against the Crimson Tide.

“What we thought would be an exciting night turned out to be a disappointing night,” Kelly said. “I told my team that I was definitely excited going into the game about their preparation, how they were thinking about this game, what they had to do physically, mentally, all the things that we speak. I was excited about their preparation.
