WEST JORDAN, Utah — A suspect was taken to the hospital after a police response escalated into a shooting early Sunday morning.

West Jordan police said the incident happened around 2 a.m. in the Hoyle Circle neighborhood, near 5600 West 7000 South, when officers responded to reports of a domestic violence incident involving a suicidal person.

Once there, officers spoke with the suspect, who police said had a “bladed weapon.” During the conversation, the suspect fled to a home in the area, where officers knew children were inside.

An officer fired his weapon, injuring the suspect, who was then transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

No police officers were injured during the incident. The Unified Police Department took over the investigation under the officer-involved critical incident protocol.
