Detroit Pistons take subway to game due to New York Marathon blockage

The Detroit Pistons commuted to work like any New Yorker would: taking the subway.

On Sunday, November 3, the basketball The team took the New York subway system to its 3:30 p.m. game at the Barclays Center against the Brooklyn Nets, all because of the massive traffic jam caused by the New York Marathon.

The team’s official Instagram account shared videos and photos from their trip as the NBA players boarded Line 3 of the train. “The New York marathon took us on a detour…” Instagram reading the video caption.

The clip circled around the team on its way among other hangers-on and followed the athletes who eventually exited the train, having to duck under the subway threshold.

Another job featured the team huddled on subway benches “stopping at the Barclays Center New York style.” The Pistons also shared a selfie while waiting on the subway platform on X (formerly Twitter).

Fans were amused that the basketball team took the city’s public transportation system. “Classic! Welcome to New York!!!! ,” one person wrote. “Hilarious only in New York,” said another, with a third fan noting that the team was “living that real New York experience! .”

The New York marathon, which this year brought together more than 50,000 people from all over the world, closed many important routes in all five boroughs, which likely affected the Pistons’ planned route to their Brooklyn game.

The Pistons won the game 106-92 against the Nets, leading fans to call for the team to use public transportation for all of their games. “Maybe the subway should become a pre-match ritual “, a fan posted.

“The Pistons are undefeated when they take the New York subway” another joked. “The Pistons win Detroit needs a subway immediately”, a third said.

Athletics predicted in October that the Pistons, who are a historically underperforming team, will “exceed expectations” this upcoming season. They hadn’t won a playoff game since 2008 and has only made the playoffs three times in the last 15 years.

Train 3 could change that.
