CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – The U.S. Supreme Court could decide Friday whether or not to challenge a now-repealed ordinance in Carbondale.

Pro-life group challenges so-called ‘bubble zones’ the city adopted around medical facilities in 2023.

At the time, city leaders said the regulations were necessary to protect people entering and leaving abortion clinics.

The group Coalition Life filed a lawsuit against the city of Carbondale, arguing that the ordinance violated the First Amendment.

City leaders voted to repeal the ordinance earlier in 2024.

If the justices decide to hear the case, it could impact similar orders across the country.
