Hawley teachers get raises after conflict with district – InForum

HAWLEY, Minn. — A resolution has been reached in the

dispute between group of teachers at Hawley and district superintendent over raises

and refunds related to higher level courses.

An agreement, signed Thursday, Nov. 7, calls for six teachers to receive pay raises after completing graduate courses at Idaho State University.

Superintendent Peter Jensen initially approved the courses for career advancement, but retracted his approval in September, saying the courses were too easy.

The teachers wanted the money they spent on lessons to be reimbursed. Thursday’s resolution says the district will no longer accept Idaho State University courses for advancement in the future.

Two teachers, already approved to take courses at the university, will nevertheless receive credits for them.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the byline “staff.” Often, the byline “personnel” is used when rewriting basic informational documents that come from official sources, such as a city press release regarding a road closure, and that require little or no reporting. Sometimes this byline is used when a news story includes many authors or when the news story is formed by aggregating previously reported information from various sources. If outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
