Lawmakers Secure More Than $3.7 Million in Public Funding for Area Projects | News, Sports, Jobs

Two state legislators helped secure $3.7 million in funding for community, economic development and school improvement projects in Lycoming and Union counties, according to a news release.

State Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, and state Rep. Jamie Flick, R-South Williamsport, recently announced that $3,790,012 in state funding has been awarded.

The funding was reviewed and approved at a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) in Harrisburg.

“The awards announced today will have an incredible impact on our communities by funding important economic development, infrastructure, public safety, recreation and school improvement projects. » Yaw said, according to the press release. “Many of these improvements are desperately needed due to aging infrastructure, some of which has not received significant upgrades in decades. I thank Rep. Flick for working with me to secure this funding.

“This funding is essential because it allows us to share the benefits with as many people as possible, supporting infrastructure projects that help businesses, community members and visitors stay strong and safe. » Flick said, according to the press release. “Additionally, I am pleased to recognize the needs of the South Williamsport Area School District and secure the necessary funding for significant improvements to its building. It’s always a pleasure to work alongside Senator Yaw to see projects like this come to fruition and ensure our communities get the resources they deserve.

The following projects have received funding under the national Share Account (LSA) programme:

Lycoming County

Montgomery Water Authority — Broad Street and Wagner Avenue water main replacement project, $996,000.

Williamsport Municipal Water Authority — Water Main Replacement Project, $963,251

Lycoming County — Central Forensic Facility Equipment Purchases, $346,511

Williamsport City Redevelopment Authority — Purchase of construction equipment for Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity, $311,045

Union County

Township of White Deer — Community Park Roof Repair and ADA Upgrade, $173,205

“The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) is grateful for this LSA award to assist with the replacement of water mains in the First Street Corridor” said Michael Miller, executive director of the WMWA, according to the press release. “This replacement addresses undersized pipes and provides critical system redundancy to support this redevelopment project in the City of Williamsport. We appreciate the overall leadership of Senator Yaw and Representative Flick in supporting our critical infrastructure.

Additionally, the South Williamsport Area School District received $1 million through the Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) program for infrastructure upgrades to the high school’s HVAC system, ADA accessibility and its energy saving project.

PSFIG provides grants to area public school districts and career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The program is administered by the Ministry of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the CFA.

The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support public benefit projects within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic recovery programs. The CFA reviews and evaluates applications based on cost, strategic importance and impact.
