Bald Eagles earn dominant win in home opener, shut out MAC foe Bloomsburg | News, Sports, Jobs

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express Lock Haven’s James Lledo raises his hand after defeating Bloomsburg’s Kolby Frank by major decision in the teams’ dual meet at Thomas Field House on Thursday. The Bald Eagles won 48-0.

The Lock Haven men’s wrestling team hosted Bloomsburg (0-4) in its home opener Thursday night in what also served as the Mid-American Conference (MAC) season opener at The Haven.

In front of their home crowd at Thomas Fieldhouse, the Bald Eagles (1-0) would make a statement at the MAC, winning all ten bouts and cruising to a 48-0 victory.

“I thought our guys performed pretty well. » said Lock Haven head coach Scott Moore. “There’s a bit of pressure in the first home game of the year, which is nice to get on the pitch. We saw seven matches, I would have liked to see a few more guys wrestle, but the aggression, confidence and fitness was pretty good. But there are always things to remember and get back to work.

Sean Logue (125), Tyler Stoltzfus (174) and Colin Fegley (184) all won by forfeit.

After the forfeit victory at 125, No. 17 Anthony Noto defeated Major Lewis by technical fall, 17-2, needing only 1:37 to do so. After wrestling at 125 pounds last season, Noto, a two-time All-American, made the jump to 133, where he currently sits at 4-1 overall.

“(Noto) has adapted well,” Moore mentioned. “He must fight with confidence and believe in himself. It will take a little more effort to get the wins this year and he looks ready.

Nationally ranked – No. 25 – Wyatt Henson (141) improved to 5-0 on the season after earning a 19-4 technical victory in 3:48 over Ashton Campbell. For Henson, it was his 22nd career tech fall, tying him for fifth all-time in Lock Haven history.

Redshirt freshman Lucas Kapusta continued the streak of technical falls with an 18-3 victory at 149. He had built a 17-3 lead but pushed the victory to a technical fall with the bonus point travel time.

Nick Stampoulos and Caden Dobbins earned back-to-back major decision victories at 157 and 165 respectively, which gave the Bald Eagles a 29-0 lead.

Last season, the Bald Eagles struggled with the backweights, building leads over their opponents before letting victory slip away.

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express Lock Haven’s Wyatt Henson puts Bloomsburg’s Ashton Campbell in a bad position during the teams’ dual meet at Thomas Field House on Thursday. Henson went on to win by tech fall, 16-0.

Tonight, however, was a different story.

Pittsburgh transfer James Lledo moved from 184 to 197 and earned a 10-2 major decision victory over Kolby Flank.

Then, heavyweight Ethan Miller was the last Bald Eagle to earn a victory, capping Lock Haven’s first shutout since the 2018-19 season with a victory over Tyler McCartharn. Miller was down 1-0 early, but a takedown in the second period as well as an escape in the third gave him the lead. A bonus point via travel time was awarded to Miller for the 5-1 decision.
