Misty Head Details What Happened When Husband Sundance Was Shot at East Texas Ranch

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A country singer who rose to fame after winning The Voice on Season 11 on Blake Shelton’s team was injured in Tyler.

According to Sundance Head’s wife Misty, he was shot in the stomach on Friday. She said he was being flown to a hospital in Tyler for surgery.

She updated again after reaching him at Tyler Hospital shortly after 8 p.m. She said he was in good spirits and their children were with him.

“He’s alone at the ranch hunting – he went there yesterday – the boys were coming tonight to join him for a weekend together and well, it happened. It wasn’t his shotgun and no, no one shot him,” Misty said. “He was out of the vehicle and reaching for his .22. When he grabbed it, the .22 came out of its holster and struck the exterior of the Jeep just to the right and was gone. Sundance said it happened so quickly and he could see the bullet dislodging.

She said he tried to get help from 10 cars passing him before one finally stopped.

“I thought he called 911, but he didn’t – he put his hands in the phone pocket immediately after he was hit, but the phone wasn’t there, just full of blood. So he took off down the driveway, to the main road, to call a car for help,” she said. “10 cars later, someone turned around to help and called 911. This is what he told me…he’s heavily medicated right now. He is so lucky and grateful to be alive. Thanks to the Good Samaritan who stopped and helped and the quick response from Life Flight and medics.

When we contacted Head’s agent, Trey Newman, he said he was stable at the hospital. Newman said he was waiting for more details, but wanted to make it clear that “we are 100 percent sure this was not self-inflicted.” He said the family is asking for prayers for Sundance’s recovery. He also said Head was at his East Texas ranch when the incident occurred.

Misty Head then informed that he would not need surgery, as the bullet missed all of his internal organs and will not be removed.

“I’m sure she (the nurse) explained why, but my head is in a fog right now. The fact that he was bigger was a good thing,” Misty said. “The bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers.
