Detroit Pistons forward leaves game with injury against Miami Heat

Tuesday evening, the Detroit Pistons took the floor against the Miami Heat in their first NBA Cup game. Midway through the match, a player was forced to leave the game after receiving a frightening blow to the head.

Veteran forward Tim Hardaway Jr. left the competition in a wheelchair after a series of bad shots. The first was an elbow to Bam Adebayo’s face as he drove to the basket. He managed to get back up, but then hit the floor hard while trying to contest a Tyler Herro layup. Hardaway Jr. attempted to get back up on his own merit, but ended up leaving the match with help.

Hardaway Jr. lasted 18 minutes before suffering the injury and got off to a good start. He was in double figures with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor.

The Pistons acquired the journeyman this offseason in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks. He’s been a mainstay in JB Bickerstaff’s starting lineup thus far, providing ball-handling and outside shooting alongside Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

Based on how he left the game, it can be assumed that Hardaway Jr. will not return to the game. Head coach JB Bickerstaff will likely provide an update during his postgame media availability.

With Hardaway Jr. now sidelined, the Pistons will have to rely on the second unit to step up and fill the void. Those likely to fill the extra minutes include rookie Ron Holland, Simone Fontecchio and Tobias Harris.
