‘Very achievable’ goal aims to end veteran homelessness in Santa Fe | Local News

When Jason Lopez was in the US Navy, his home was an aircraft carrier. Later, after returning to Santa Fe and losing his apartment, his home became whatever plot of land he could find.

“I’ve slept in fields, under a bridge, in a tent, it doesn’t matter, I’ve done it all,” he said.

Lopez, 52, joined the New Mexico National Guard at age 19, then joined the U.S. Navy, spending months at sea. He never saw combat, but said his service was characterized by a hard work.
