Michael Bloomberg runs for office with $50 million donation

Former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg reportedly donated $50 million to support Kamala Harris under pressure from a fellow billionaire.

News of Bloomberg’s financial support comes just a week before Election Day, with the vote between Harris and Donald Trump tied. Prominent billionaires have chosen sides in the hotly contested presidential race – Bloomberg has joined George Soros in supporting Kamala Harris while Elon Musk is very firmly in Donald Trump’s camp.

Bloomberg, known for his donations at the end of the election season, is said to have dipped into his very deep pockets after months of pressure from his ultra-wealthy associates.

Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates is among those who pressured Bloomberg to financially support the Democrat’s campaign, THE New York Times reportsalongside venture capitalist Ron Conway and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.

Gates also reportedly donated $50 million to the Harris campaign amid concerns over a second Trump presidency, according to the Times previously reported, although he stopped short of giving his public support. Conway has donated at least $600,000 while Hoffman has given more than $9 million to the super PAC.

A person close to the situation told the Times that Bloomberg met with Harris’ economic team to provide feedback on his economic plan. The vice president then called Bloomberg to express her appreciation for his expertise.

Bloomberg, 82, has endorsed and endorsed Democratic presidential candidates since 2012, and earlier this year donated nearly $20 million to a super PAC — although at the time it supported the presidential bid. re-election of President Joe Biden.

The latest donation went to the Future Forward USA Action super PAC which supports Harris. Bloomberg has not commented on this multi-million dollar support.

So far this election cycle, he has individually given more than $42 million to Democratic candidates, according to federal disclosures. But even combined with the recent $50 million donation, that’s still considerably less than the more than 151 million dollars he gave during the 2020 election cycle.

The former mayor, who switched from independent to Democrat in 2018, has a net worth of more than $104 billion.

In an attempt to defeat Trump in 2020, Bloomberg threw his name into the ring of potential Democratic candidates alongside Harris. He spent more than $1 billion on an ultimately unsuccessful campaign.

News of the donation comes after billionaire Warren Buffett released a statement saying he does not support either candidate, although he has previously supported Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
