3 takeaways as Blue Jackets embarrass Oilers and McDavid injured

The Edmonton Oilers had a terrible night in more ways than one. Not only they lose 6-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets but they lost Connor McDavid during the first shift of the game. He did not return and it was learned after the game that he was being sent home from the road trip for further evaluation. Here are the key takeaways as the Blue Jackets beat the Oilers.

Biggest takeaway: McDavid injured and not making it to Nashville

The Oilers were unable and unwilling to provide much information on McDavid’s injury following Monday night’s loss. It was called a lower body issue and the video made it look like he had caught his left foot in the boards when he tripped. McDavid skated a bit before leaving the ice, leaving the game and not returning. Ryan Rishaug said the injury wasn’t too serious, but the fact that McDavid is leaving the team while they’re on the road must be somewhat concerning.

McDavid will not play Thursday against the Nashville Predators, but it is too early to know if he will be out for any other games. The Oilers better not hope so because the team didn’t respond well after McDavid left the game Monday night.

Stuart Skinner wasn’t horrible, the oilmen left him to dry

The Oilers played one of their worst defensive games of the season. Allowing six goals on 25 shots is useless Stuart Skinner it looks very good. There were a few goals he’d probably like to get back, but the Oilers left Skinner out to dry. One Skinner didn’t see, two were on rebounds where the Blue Jackets players were wide open. Another was warned.
