The Sokoto State Government says another terrorist group identified as LAKURAWAS has emerged in the state.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Idris Gobir, disclosed this while receiving participants of Course 33 of the National Defense College, Abuja, who were on a study tour to the state.

According to him, the group is known to be sectarian idealist, stressing that assessments carried out showed that the group possessed sophisticated weapons and its criminal activities were observed in about five local government areas of the state.

The deputy governor said this is happening at a time when the state is facing banditry activities.

Gobir added that the threat was growing and security authorities were working assiduously to deal with the emerging menace.

“The state government has been working closely with federal security agencies to address the numerous threats to the security of lives and property of the people of the state,” he said.

He highlighted the various efforts being made by the state government to address the security challenges facing the state.

He expressed optimism that the study tour will provide authorities with necessary information on the nature of ongoing criminal activities and propose solutions that would ensure safety of lives and peaceful coexistence among people.
