Electric motorcycle brand Royal Enfield Flying Flea: Everything you need to know

Royal Enfield launched the Flying Flea. This is not a new motorcycle, but a new sub-brand of RE. In fact, this is the first time that Royal Enfield is exploring the sub-brand route. This sub-brand will launch its first motorcycle in 2026, and here’s everything you need to know about the Flying Flea.

The flying flea

The new sub-brand will initially be an electric or exclusively electric brand. It will focus on lightweight motorcycles with what RE calls an urban riding range and more.

According to Royal Enfield, urban range and above means enough miles per charge to complete an urban commute or a nearby excursion. Our view is that RE is looking at a range of around 100km to meet this criterion.

When it comes to weight management, all Flying Flea motorcycles will liberally use aluminum and plastic to control weight. Can you imagine a 120 kg RE electric motorcycle? Maybe Flying Flea will produce one!

Royal Enfield is clear that it does not take the term lightweight, lightly, no pun intended. And Flying Flea will not produce lightweight motorcycles from RE’s current perspective, but lightweight motorcycles, period.

What’s in a name?

Flying Flea will follow a new naming convention for its motorcycles. These will be alphanumeric in nature. For example, its first motorcycle will be called the C6, which will be followed by the S6. C in C6 means Classic, while S in S6 means Scrambler. Meanwhile, the figure tells you where the model sits in the price, range and performance hierarchy.

Flying Flea might start with 6, but it will launch bikes at both ends of the scale if all goes according to plan. A C4 for example will be located below the C6 in the Classic genre in terms of price and positioning. But a C8 will be more expensive, and perhaps also more technologically advanced.

Positioning

As mentioned, Flying Flea will be RE’s exclusively electric brand. But not all electric motorcycles coming from Royal Enfield will carry the Flying Flea or FF branding. The Himalayan Electric for example will remain a Royal Enfield. The same goes for other large, relatively heavy electric motorcycles that could follow the Himalayan Electric.

The idea with Flying Flea motorcycles is to offer an additional purchase option. It will be a +1 in his garage and not the only motorcycle. It’s aimed at those looking for something that’s an extension of their lifestyle. Royal Enfield believes people will buy the FF because they are looking for something fun and easy, but also environmentally friendly. We agree with the first two reasons, but are unsure about the third reason. Plus, after seeing the bike in real life, we think many would want it because it’s a beautiful thing.

But, of course, we will know how people accept it once it launches in 2026.
