Section 144 imposed on Karachi as IDEAS 2024 kicks off today – Pakistan

As Karachi hosts the 12th edition of the International defense exhibition and seminar (IDEAS-24) at the Expo Center from November 19 (today) to 22, 2024, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi imposed a seven-day ban on protests and gatherings in the port city.

As per the notification, the ban under Section 144 was imposed at the instance of the Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi Range.

During the exhibition, all protests, sit-ins, rallies and gatherings of more than five people are prohibited throughout the city.

Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Ahmad Cheema announced a complete diversion of traffic for the duration of the exhibition.

The main changes include: closure of Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road from Hassan Square to the stadium; Roads connecting University Road and Stadium Road to the Expo Center will be closed from November 19 to 22.

The flight from Hassan Square to National Stadium Road will be limited from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.;

Heavy and commercial vehicles, including tankers, will be prohibited from plying on Karsaz Road.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the event, which will include international seminars, defense technology demonstrations and business networking through B2B and B2G engagements.

A special show from Karachi is planned at Sea View (Nishan-e-Pakistan) on November 21.

Additionally, the exhibition will bring together 55 countries, including Iran and the United Kingdom.
