US boxing legend Mike Tyson still fit, despite false claims he died – Australian Associated Press

AAP FACTCHECK – False claims that boxing legend Mike Tyson died in hospital are being shared on social media.

The former heavyweight champion has posted messages on social media in recent days, and his publicist says there is no truth to claims he is dead.

The 58-year-old came out of retirement for a fight with YouTuber Jake Paul, which he lost by unanimous decision on November 15, 2024.

Dozens of Facebook Posts published in the days following the fight, claims that Tyson is dead and features manipulated images of him with coffins or hospital beds.

“RIP Mike Tyson just died in hospital, with his final regret,” the captions read.

The image of the car wreck was taken during an accident in Texas in which Mike Tyson was not involved.

Some messages include images of car wrecks, suggesting the former sportsman was involved in an accident, sometimes with superimposed text reading: “Rest in peace.”

A reverse search of the image of the car wreck used in many of the fake posts showed it was a photo of a fatal accident. Texas car accident in 2023.

Other users making the claim in Facebook Posts added links to suspicious websites and surveys in the comments.

Two days after the high-profile boxing event, Tyson revealed he had suffered health problems ahead of his fight with Paul.

“It’s one of those situations where you lose but still win. I am grateful for last night. No regrets about getting in the ring one last time,” he wrote in a statement. post on.

Tyson’s publicist, Joann Mignano, said the allegations about her client’s death were false.

Tyson also responded to compatriot Evander Holyfield’s call for the two men to fight a rematch in a Instagram post on November 19.

“I love you brother, but the trilogy is our friendship,” Tyson commented.

False claims about Tyson’s death have been debunked in the past by Snopes And Dubai.
