Plymouth pharmacist says she took out loan to pay for NHS drugs

Pharmacies buy their medicines from wholesalers and are reimbursed a fixed amount per prescription by the NHS, but Ms Kumordzi said these fees had not increased since 2016.

She said she had taken out a loan to cover rising costs in 2023 and would leave the NHS if given the chance.

The NHS uses a medicines tariff for reimbursements, but it often does not cover moving prices, Ms Kumordzi said.

She decides each month which ones she will reimburse at higher rates, but that doesn’t always cover the pharmacy’s costs, she said.
