Sometimes a team’s best player is just too good, and that was the case Sunday night with Justin Jefferson. It’s usually with him.

The Colts secondary is young and loaded with recent rookies like Samuel Womack III and Jaylon Jones. They covered Jefferson admirably, but he denounced them repeatedly. He crossed the middle and jumped to catch, absorbing blows while carrying them. He pushed cornerbacks away from the line of scrimmage, moving up the sideline with ease. He sprinted down routes and snagged catches on the sidelines. And even when Darnold didn’t attempt it over the middle, the Colts cornerbacks played aggressively, once flagged for holding.

Jefferson’s running mate, Addison, had been quiet the past two weeks, and his finish line — five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown — didn’t justify the performance.
