Donald Trump wins Georgia’s 16 electoral votes in second major battleground call

Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the swing state of Georgia and will get its 16 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press.

Georgia has played a major role in each campaign’s 2024 Electoral College strategy after the state narrowly flipped blue in 2020 to help elect Democrats. Joe Biden. Harris and Trump have spent a lot of time courting Georgia voters this time around, with Trump emerging as the slight favorite heading into Election Day.

Following the AP’s call in Georgia Wednesday morning, Trump leads the presidential race with a total of 246 electoral votes to 210 for Harris. The first candidate to reach 270 wins the Electoral College – and the White House.

Carter, now the longest-serving U.S. president, was one of Harris’ most prominent Democratic supporters in Georgia this year, casting his ballot in Georgia shortly after turning 100 in October. “I think he feels good,” said Jimmy’s son Chip. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the former president filling out his absentee ballot. “It was a good morning for him and it’s good for us that he did it.”

Both Trump and Harris kept their eyes on Georgia in the final days of the election season, with polls showing them well within each other’s margin of error.

Other key states that played an important role in the 2024 presidential campaign include Pennsylvania (with 19 electoral votes), North Carolina (16), Michigan (15), Arizona (11), Wisconsin (10) and Nevada (6).
