In response to the ongoing fuel shortage and electricity supply constraints, the caretaker government issued a directive calling on ministries to reduce energy consumption by minimizing the use of air conditioning during the upcoming winter season.

In a notification issued today (November 28) by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, it is stated that the directive will come into force from November 2024 to February 2025.

The instruction applies to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways, as well as their associated agencies and departments.

It aims to save energy to meet national electricity demand in critical sectors, including irrigation, fertilizer production and industrial gas supply.

Previously, directives already provided for a 25% reduction in electricity consumption in all ministries.
