Confirmed road closures and national service details

Today the Isle of Man comes together to pay tribute to all those who have died in the service of their country.

Two minutes of silence will be observed at 11am on Remembrance Day (Sunday 10 November) and Armistice Day (Monday 11 November), and a number of events will take place across the island.

This year’s National Service of Remembrance will take place this afternoon in St John’s.

It will take place at the Chapelle Royale Saint-Jean and the National War Memorial at 3 p.m.

The service will bring together His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Lorimer, alongside representatives from uniformed organisations, charities and various government agencies.

The event is open to the public and the congregation is asked to be seated no later than 2:45 p.m.

OTHER EVENTS

CITY CASTLE

A two-minute silence in memory of all those who have died serving their country will be observed in Castletown Market Square at 11am on Sunday and 11am on Monday.

Organizers requested “the public’s full cooperation in the observance” and the “suspension of all vehicular traffic between 11:00 a.m. and 11:02 a.m. on designated days.”

A parade will leave City Hall at 9:40 a.m. this morning for a 10 a.m. service in Arbory ​​St. Methodist Church.

Those wishing to participate in the parade should aim to arrive by 9:15am and the parade will form at 9:30am.

This will be followed by the laying of wreaths and the act of commemoration at the war memorial.

COLBY

All are invited to gather in the Arbory ​​School parking lot at 10:15 a.m. for a parade at 10:30 a.m.

DOUGLAS

Douglas City Council’s annual memorial service will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at St Thomas Church before a ceremony at the War Memorial on Douglas Drive.

A parade will form at Market Hill at 9:15 a.m. and depart at 9:20 a.m., led by the Douglas Town Marching Band, standard bearers, military personnel and Douglas Mayor Natalie Byron-Teare.

ONCHAN

There will be a brief service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Onchan War Memorial, with a two-minute silence.

The Maroons will be fired from The Rec behind the commissioners office at 11 a.m. and 11:02 a.m. to mark the start and finish.

The annual Remembrance Sunday service will be held at St. Peter’s Church.

PEEL

A number of services will take place in the Cathedral today:

  • 8:30 a.m. BCP Said Eucharist
  • 10:30 a.m. Eucharist in the Cathedral
  • 3:00 p.m. RBL Civic Service of Remembrance with Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band

PORT-ERIN

Wreath laying at the Memorial Hall, Droghadfayle Road, Port Erin at 10am.

Form up right after for the parade led by Rushen Silver Band around 10:10am.

Arrival at Rushen Parish Church around 10:40-10:45 a.m. Start of the service at 10:50 a.m. with welcome, reading of names then 2 minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m.

PORT SAINT-MARY

The annual Remembrance Parade will take place on Monday, November 11.

The parade will start at Scoill Phurt Le Moirrey at 10:35 a.m., alternatively at 10:50 a.m. at the Garden of Remembrance.

The Albert Hotel Port St Mary has kindly agreed to provide light refreshments following the service.

ROAD CLOSURES

A number of roads across the island will be closed for Remembrance Day and Armistice Day.

The Ministry of Infrastructure has released a list of affected roads in Douglas and Ramsey ahead of planned commemorative events.

In the north, the following roads will be closed between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Sunday (November 10):

  • Parliament Street, from its junction with Tower Street to its junction with Market Hill and Bourne Place
  • Bourne Place, from its junction with Market Hill to its junction with Peel Street and Water Street
  • Market Hill from its junction with Bourne Place to its junction with Market Place East
  • Water Street, from its junction with Court Row to its junction with Peel Street and Bourne Place
  • Court Row, from its junction with Parliament Street to its junction with Water Street

In the capital, several roads will be closed on Sunday and Monday (November 11).

Remembrance Sunday:

  • Market Hill, from Lord Street to North Quay, will be closed from 8.45am to 9.30am.
  • Market Street, from St Thomas Walk to Church Road Marina, will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • St Thomas Walk, from Marina Road to Market Street, will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Finch Road, from Crellins Hill to Church Road Marina, will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Church Road Marina, from Finch Road to Market Street, will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Church Road Marina, from Market Street to Harris Promenade, will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Harris Promenade, from its junction with Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) to Broadway (both carriageways), will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

On Armistice Day, Harris Drive will be closed from Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) to Broadway from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Parking is also suspended on Harris Promenade between its junction with Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) and its junction with Broadway on November 10 between 8am and 12pm and November 11 between 10:45am and 11:30am.
