The man missing in Manawatu River is an active member of New Zealand Defense Force, police say.

A research continued today after the man walking his dog fell into the river at Ahimate Park, Palmerston North SATURDAY.

The National Police Dive Team, Police Search and Rescue personnel, a fast water rescue boat, kayaks, drones, a helicopter and many other volunteers took part in the search.

Inspector Ashley Gurney said the missing man was a serving member of the Defense Force (NZDF).

“NZDF members assisted police, providing logistical and search support along the river,” Gurney said.
