The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are closed near Warner Road after officers attempted to arrest a man after he crossed into the westbound lanes Monday evening.

The Department of Public Safety says officers were called to the scene after reports of a pedestrian in the westbound lanes shortly before 8:30 p.m.

Officials say officers attempted to stop the man who then jumped the center reservation into the eastbound lanes.

Police say the man was struck by a vehicle heading east.

Officials said “a struggle ensued between a police officer and the suspect while the officer took the suspect into custody.”

Meanwhile, another accident occurred between two cars, in which a passenger died.

DPS officials say the drivers of both vehicles were also injured.

I-10 eastbound lanes are closed, it is unclear when the area will reopen.

The investigation is still ongoing.
