Rafael is weakening and will likely become a residual trough soon

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Rafael continues to feel the influences of nearby dry air and wind shear and has become a much weaker system.

Rafael didn’t move much this weekend and probably won’t on Sunday either. The combination of dry air and wind shear will likely cause Rafael to completely degenerate early next week. And this, even if Rafael tries to drift a little further north than expected.

Ultimately, therefore, it is likely that Rafael will have limited, if any, impact on SWLA. The only impact we might notice could be higher tides on the coast later this weekend as Rafael moves south into our region.
