New Chicago Sky Coach: Las Vegas Aces Assistant Coach Tyler Marsh Agrees to Be Next Sky Coach

CHICAGO– Tyler Marsh has agreed to become the new head coach of the Chicago Skywith the parties having reached a multi-year agreement, agent Andy Miller of Klutch Sports told ESPN.

Marsh, assistant coach and head of player development at the The Aces of Las Vegastakes over a promising Sky team which includes Angel Reese And Kamilla Cardosoboth first-round picks earlier this year.

“The Chicago Sky organization is proud to welcome our next head coach Tyler Marsh to Skytown,” said a Sky spokesperson. “Coach Marsh is widely respected for developing elite players and shares our goal of being a playoff and championship contender every year.”

The Sky will also enter the upcoming draft lottery, but due to a pick swap with Dallas, they will not end up with the No. 1 pick.

Winner of the 2021 WNBA title, Chicago fired Teresa Weatherspoon on September 26 after 11 months at the helm. The team finished 13-27, narrowly missing the playoffs with Reese, Cardoso and the star Chennedy Carter all injured to close the season.

The Sky have a host of free agents entering 2025, including Carter, but with Marsh at the helm they will look to build around Reese and Cardoso.

Marsh joined the Aces team upon Becky Hammon’s arrival in 2022, helping guide Las Vegas to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and ’23. Prior to that, he worked in the NBA, spending two years as an assistant coach/player development within the NBA. Indiana Pacers after serving as assistant video coordinator and player development coach for the Toronto Raptors.

He also spent three seasons as an assistant in the G League.

Marsh’s departure marks the second vacant assistant coaching position on Hammon’s staff. Natalie Nakase, Hammon’s first assistant coach, took over as expansion head coach Valkyries of the Golden State last month.

The Aces, whose three-time title bid failed with a loss to Freedom of New York in the semi-finals, are ready to surrender their core A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray And Jackie YoungbutKelsey Plum is about to enter free agency.

There have been seven head coaching openings in the WNBA this offseason. Marsh’s hiring leaves five of those positions still vacant: Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington, Atlanta and Connecticut.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, next year will be the first time in WNBA history (not counting the league’s inaugural year) that seven new head coaches will start the season.
