Nigeria Immigration launches 24-hour real-time border surveillance

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened its border security capabilities with the inauguration of a 24-hour real-time surveillance system.

The promotion was announced by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, during the induction ceremony of 123 newly trained officers at the NIS Command and Control Centre.

The newly established surveillance system is designed to provide continuous surveillance of Nigeria’s land, sea and air borders. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the importance of this initiative, saying: “Our country’s border security, border governance and border control capabilities have just improved.

“We join an elite list of countries whose immigration officers can conduct surveillance 24/7 with real-time surveillance. » he said.

Tunji-Ojo stressed that with the facilities now complete and the staff fully trained, the onboarding of these officers marks a significant milestone.

“Today, we take a giant step forward by inducting officers who have demonstrated their skills through rigorous training and exercises using cutting-edge technology,” he said.

The minister stressed that this technological advancement aligns with the Nigerian government’s broader strategy to employ innovative solutions for national security.

Global partnerships

The introduction of advanced surveillance technology significantly improves Nigeria’s ability to forge partnerships internationally. This technology not only strengthens border security, but also allows the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to collaborate effectively with global security organizations, such as Interpol.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighted this capability, saying: “This technology provides us with global integration where we can collaborate seamlessly with Interpol and other international security agencies. » His remarks highlight the importance of the initiative in strengthening Nigeria’s security framework, enabling better communication and coordination with international counterparts.

The minister expressed pride in the achievements of the NIS “I am proud of what Nigerian Immigration has achieved and look forward to further progress from all agencies under the Department of Home Affairs,” he said.
