The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the banned student wing of the Awami League, took out a flash procession in the Prabartak intersection area of Chattogram city in the wee hours of today (18 november).

A group of 15 to 20 people took to the streets, briefly chanting slogans such as “Amra Kara, Sheikh Hasina, tomra kara, Sheikh Hasina” (Who are we, Sheikh Hasina, who are you, Sheikh Hasina).

A 33-second video of the procession went viral on social media shortly after.

Officer-in-Charge of Panchlaish Police Station Mohammad Solaiman said the group of people left Prabartak junction around 12:40 am and completed it after heading towards Badna Shah Mazar in just two minutes.

He said a raid was carried out following the incident and a person who participated in the procession was arrested around 4am. The operation to arrest the others is underway.

Earlier, on October 18, around midnight, Chhatra League activists took out a procession in the Jamal Khan area of the port city. Police later arrested five people following the incident.

Amid demands from students after a mass uprising toppled the AL government on August 5, the caretaker government on October 23 banned the Chhatra League under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009.
