‘Long-stay’ dog faces third Christmas at RSPCA Sheffield

The RSPCA has launched an appeal to find a new home for a “long stay” dog who has been at its Sheffield shelter for 800 days.

Six-year-old Lurcher Nova was taken in by the charity because she didn’t get on with another dog she lived with, but is now facing a third Christmas without having been adopted.

Staff at RSPCA Sheffield said more animals had been placed in their care for financial reasons such as the high cost of veterinary treatment.

Kerry Grayson, animal care and customer service manager, said: “Nova is a little nervous at first, but someone has to give her a chance to see the other side of her.”

She added: “Nova is a bit insecure around new people and she is also a bit reactive around other dogs.

“She needs a quieter home without other animals. She’s so funny, she has this quirky side. She loves singing to music. She loves getting on your chest and cuddling, and she’s also cheerful.”
