Prison for man who entered Changi Airport despite ban and asked foreigner to carry gold

SINGAPORE: A man has been banned from entering Changi Airport unless he takes a flight after being arrested twice for what the prosecution described as vandalism-related activities .

Despite this, Bhuiyan Md Robius Sani, 35, violated the order in October 2023 and was caught handing over a pouch containing gold chains to a Bangladeshi foreigner before the latter left Singapore.

On October 28, Bhuiyan pleaded guilty to one count of criminal trespass and was sentenced to six days in jail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Phoebe Tan said airport terminal managers observed individuals harassing passengers and asking them to help transport items to their home countries.

She said: “The actions of these subjects are considered a nuisance to the Changi Airport Group due to their prevalence, their negative effect on the reputation of Changi Airport and the fact that these subjects could sometimes be aggressive towards passengers. »

Bhuiyan was among those who asked passengers for help in transporting items to another country.

He received the first restraining order on September 12, 2023, banning him from entering Changi Airport until September 11, 2024.

He violated the order on September 25, 2023 and received a second order that day. This time he was banned from entering the airport until September 12, 2024.

He continued to defy orders and went to Changi Airport Terminal 3 at around 8 p.m. on October 27, 2023, intending to hand over items such as gold chains to foreigners traveling to Bangladesh.

A terminal official spotted Bhuiyan handing over the pouch containing gold chains to a Bangladeshi passenger.

After a check, the manager alerted the police when he learned of Bhuiyan’s no-entry orders.

For criminal trespass, offenders can be jailed for up to three months and fined up to $1,500. -The time of the straits/ANN
