‘SNL’ Made Direct Appeal to President-Elect Donald Trump During Cold Open of Post-Election Episode

CNN

Several of the actors in “Saturday Night Live” took the stage at Studio 8H in New York on Saturday in the first episode after the presidential election, where they jokingly appealed directly to President-elect Donald Trump that they should not be among his “political enemies”.

In what started as a sober sketchthe cast acknowledged that for “a lot of people watching this show right now,” the election results were, as actor Ego Nwodim put it, “shocking, even horrifying.”

Kenan Thompson later called Trump someone who “called for vengeance against his political enemies,” with Nwodim saying he believed that now there is “nothing left to protect the people who are brave enough to speak out against him.”

Then the tone shifted when Thompson humorously added, “And that’s why we at ‘SNL’ would like to say to Donald Trump, we… have been with you all along!

The actors then said they actually supported Trump before the election, with Bowen Yang remarking, “We have never wavered in our support!” and Heidi Gardner later joked that she had voted for him “fifty times” in the Pennsylvania swing scene.

“So if you keep some kind of list of your enemies, then…” Thompson said, as Marcello Hernandez finished his sentence by saying, “we should not be on this list.

The cast also launched a new version of James Austin Johnson’s Trump on the show, known for his political impersonations.

Johnson then appeared on stage as the newly revamped “hot jacked Trump,” sporting a red headband and incredibly muscular arms.

“They finally got the right body,” Johnson said while impersonating Trump and flexing. “From now on, we’re going to paint a very flattering portrait of Trump because he’s honestly my hero.”

“SNL” alum Dana Carvey also made an outdoor appearance — but not as President Joe Biden, whom he has portrayed since season 50 kicked off. This time, Carvey appeared under the name Elon Musk.

Bill Burr served as this week’s host, with Mk.gee as musical guest.

“Saturday Night Live” airs on NBC at 11:30 p.m. EDT/8:30 p.m. PDT.
