Cowboys Rumors: QB Will Grier Signs Contract Amid Dak Prescott Injury, Rush Struggles | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats and Rumors

According to Newy Scruggs from NBC5, Dallas signs Will Grier, who was released from the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, according to Pro Football Talk’s Charian Williams. Grier spent the 2021-22 season with the Cowboys.

Grier was a third-round draft pick of the West Virginia Carolina Panthers in 2019, but saw very little action during his NFL career. His only appearances came in 2019 when he played in two games and completed 28 of 52 passes for 228 yards and four interceptions.

After his time with Carolina, he was claimed off waivers by the Cowboys ahead of the 2021 season and became Dallas’ third-string quarterback. He did not play at all in his first season in Dallas and joined the practice squad in 2022.

When the Cowboys picked up Trey Lance before the 2023 season, they cut Grier and he joined the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad. He was signed to the New England Patriots practice squad later that year before finishing the season with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad.

After a short stint with the Eagles earlier this year, Grier is now back in Dallas.

With Prescott out, the Cowboys turned to Cooper Rush at center Sunday against the Eagles. Rush completed 13 of 23 passes for just 45 yards while losing two fumbles in the 34-6 loss.

Dallas also has Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, on its roster. Lance played briefly in Sunday’s loss, throwing for 21 yards and an interception on 4-of-6 passing.

It’s unlikely the Cowboys will have to turn to Grier at any point this season, but it’s not a bad idea to bring in another quarterback after another goes down, just for reasons depth.
