Substitute teacher allegedly gave students cash and drugs in exchange for sex

A former Missouri substitute teacher was arrested this week after allegedly forcing underage students to have sex.

According to Fox News 2Carissa Jane Smith, 30, was taken into custody on Tuesday, November 12, following a nearly two-month investigation into her alleged crimes. THE Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department cited interviews with several minors who accused Smith of giving them marijuana, alcohol and money in exchange for sex acts.

“The victims’ statements indicated that Ms. Smith would have sexual relations with them at her residence and other locations such as gravel roads or on the side of the road,” the sheriff’s department wrote. “The victims were able to provide information about the type of vehicle Ms. Smith was driving and describe her residence.”

The alleged sexual encounters took place between August 2023 and September 2024. One of the accusers claimed he was in college when Smith solicited him for sex. According to KY3law enforcement notified the school district of the allegations; however, staff confirmed that she was no longer an employee of the district.

“Earlier this school year, the district received a report of possible misconduct by Ms. Smith toward at least one student in the district,” the district wrote in a letter shared by KY3. “This report has been shared with authorities responsible for investigating issues of this nature. We have cooperated fully with the Missouri Children’s Division and law enforcement throughout their investigations. We have also been in contact with affected families.

Smith now faces 19 felonies, including statutory rape, sexual misconduct with a student, sex trafficking, statutory sodomy and patronizing prostitution. Authorities say additional charges could be filed once more students are interviewed.

“The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department reminds everyone that these charges are merely an accusation and that these individuals remain innocent until proven guilty,” the department continued.

Smith is being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
