Two teenagers steal vehicle in Snow Hill; a police officer was almost dragged to the scene

SNOW HILL, N.C. (WITN) – Police say two teenagers were arrested after stealing a car in Snow Hill on Sunday.

Snow Hill Police say on Nov. 10 they were notified by the Farmville Police Department about a stolen vehicle that was in their jurisdiction and located it in the 600 block of Jordan Avenue.

When officers approached the stolen vehicle with the registered owner, two suspects inside fled the scene, nearly dragging Corporal Payton as she attempted to arrest them.

They say the two suspects fled a short distance, before jumping out of the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

The Snow Hill Police Department contacted the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office to see if there was a K-9 available to help find the two suspects.

After a short pursuit, both suspects were ultimately apprehended and transported to the Greene County Detention Center.

Police said Deonta Anre Suggs, 18, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting a public officer.

Suggs was given a $20,000 secured bond with a court date set for November 22, 2024.

Police said Jalen Deron Smith, 18, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a public officer.

Smith was given no bail on the basis that he was on bail for a separate matter with a court date of November 22, 2024.
