A fire service is placing yellow labels on wheelie bins to warn residents they are at high risk of being set on fire on bonfire night.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) is urging Hull residents to take extra precautions to prevent theft and arson.

The campaign is supported by Hull City Council, which said “increased activity around November 5 may unfortunately result in a higher risk for bins left unattended”.

Sarah Wilkinson, head of prevention at HFRS, said: “To prevent arson, store bins safely, as they are often the target of anti-social behaviour, leading to dangerous fires and environmental damage. »
