Sara Imari Walker – Long Now

Sara Imari Walker leads one of the largest international theoretical groups on the origins of life and astrobiology. The main areas of research for Walker and his team are to develop new approaches to the problem of understanding the universal characteristics of life; those that could enable a general theory to solve the problem of the transition to life, detect extraterrestrial life and design synthetic life. The application of assembly theory, a physical framework based on molecular complexity that Walker and his team have expanded, opens a new avenue for identifying where the threshold is where life arises from non-life, and for detect and understand the evolution of life on our planet and in the universe.

What is it’s been a long time now?

The Long Now Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1996 to promote long-term thinking. Our work encourages imagination on the time scale of civilization – the next and last 10,000 years – a period we call it’s been a long time now.
