The actress said her complicated costume had “too many layers” to handle

Cynthia Erivo learned to remember everything when she was inside her Wicked suit.

During an appearance on the November 15 episode of the podcast Sentimental menThe 37-year-old actress said she refused to use the restroom for up to 12 to 14 hours at a time during long production days during Jon M. Chuthe highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical.

Erivo, who plays Elphaba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West) in the anticipated film, detailed the arduous process of donning her costume and harnesses to film the stunts.

She revealed that there were “two or three different harnesses for different stunts” and that she wore them over her corset and costume when using them.

“Those days were really interesting because once you’re in the harness you don’t want to get out because it takes forever to get everything ready again, the cables and everything else,” said the award winner. a Grammy. “Those days can be very difficult. They can be very exhausting because your body is subjected to the strangest things.”

Erivo added that she didn’t use the restroom during those filming days, even though they might start as early as 7 or 8 a.m. and continue late into the evening.

“I don’t go to the bathroom,” she shared. “Once I’m in my costume – and this is probably a really bad idea – and the harness is on, I don’t do it. I don’t worry about it. There are too many layers.”

She added casually, “That’s how it is.”

However, people on set would ask her if she should go to the bathroom, which she refused.

“No, I don’t need to go to the bathroom,” she remembers his response. “Let’s go. Let’s go. We’re here.”

The musical comedy of the film, with Erivo and Ariana Grande in the lead roles, is based on the musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman – based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire.

The work, published in two parts, tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1900 children’s book by L. Frank Baum. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film The Wizard of Ozwho is introduced as a student named Elphaba.

In the story, the gifted woman meets Glinda (future Good Witch) at Shiz University, where they become roommates and then unlikely friends until an evil separates them.

Earlier this month, Grande and Erivo said in an interview with content creator Aichark that many of them their complementary mode look at were not actually planned in advance.

“The first day of rehearsal, we both wore Balenciaga hoodies. Mine was pink and said ‘gay’ and his was black and said ‘Balenciaga,'” Grande said.

The actresses further revealed that several of the outfits worn during their recent joint appearances were also unarranged.

“It’s never really planned. It’s Never foreseen. We come in and this is what happens,” Erivo said.

Wicked will be released in two parts, with the first arriving in theaters on November 22.
