Kamala Harris makes surprise appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’

vice-president Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” the show’s final episode before the election.

Harris appeared during the cold open alongside Maya Rudolph, who regularly portrays Harris.

In the opening skit, Rudolph, playing Harris, lamented, “I wish I could talk to someone in my shoes,” before turning to a mirror, where the vice president herself appeared , dressed the same way.

“I’m just here to remind you that you get this,” Harris said. “Because you can do something your opponent can’t do: you can open doors.”

The phrase was an apparent insult against Trump who tripped while opening the door of a garbage truck earlier this week during a campaign stop, which was part of a waterfall following comments from President Joe Biden.

“Take my palm-ala,” Rudolph later ordered Harris, riffing on his first name. “The American people want to end the chaos.”

“And end the dram-ala,” Harris added, as the two continued the riff.

“Because what do we always say? » asked Rodolphe.

“Keep calm-ala and carry on-ala,” they said in unison to the applause of the audience.

At one point, Rudolph laughed and Harris responded, “I don’t really laugh like that, do I?

“A little,” Rudolph replied.

Actor and comedian John Mulaney hosted, with Chappell Roan as musical guest.

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., also made a surprise appearance, during a skit where contestants on a game show were supposed to be able to name a famous person.

“Hi! I was Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate. At the time, you said this was the most important election in American history and that democracy was at stake. That less than eight years old.

Mulaney, as one of the candidates, could not identify him. He also couldn’t name Kaine a second time, even though the senator had identified himself a few minutes earlier.

Harris’ appearance on the long-running variety series brought her to New York, far from the battleground states she visited in the latter part of the campaign. On Saturday, Harris held a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said “SNL” had “crushed” her all season and that being on the show was “crazy.”

When asked by reporters if the show had invited Trump to be a guest, he replied, “Probably not. I don’t know.”

A spokesperson for “Saturday Night Live” did not respond to a request for comment on whether Trump was invited to appear.

Harris expressed admiration for Rudolph’s portrayal of her.

“Maya Rudolph — I mean, she’s so good,” Harris said of her impression on “The View” last month, also praising her “mannerisms.” “She had everything, the costume, the jewelry, everything! »

Presidential candidates from both major parties have made appearances on “SNL” in recent years.

Asset hosted the show in November 2015sparking a demonstration by hundreds of demonstrators who objected to his comments on undocumented immigrants. A month earlier, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made an appearance in the series and impersonated Trump.

Barack Obama too makes an appearance in 2007, while running for the Democratic presidential nomination. The following year, then-Gov. Sarah Palin appeared on the show just weeks before the election as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

“SNL” and NBC News share a parent company, NBCUniversal.
